Kenny Loggins

When I worked at a TV station in Santa Barbara, California we did an annual telethon which was hosted by Kenny Loggins, a longtime Santa Barbara resident.
I was never a real big fan of his music, but was ready to give the guy a chance, maybe his personality was better than his insipid tunes.
Anyway, it was my job to introduce the musical guests for that evening. We had Michael McDonald, Joe Cocker and a guy named Richard Marx among others.
I was familiar with McDonald and Cocker but knew only one thing about Marx. The previous week I was at an Elvis Costello concert and he was talking about the venue and mentioned that Richard Marx would be there the next night. He then added, “he’s really quite awful.”
So, that’s all I knew.
So, Loggins comes up to me at one point and asks me if I was introducing the musicians and I said yes. He asked me what I knew about Richard Marx. I nearly said, well I know that Elvis Costello thinks he’s awful. Instead, I said I’m not familiar with him.
Loggins insisted on introducing Marx himself because, “He is really accomplished,” he said.
Loggins was apparently a big fan.
By the way Loggins let me introduce Joe Cocker and Michael McDonald who really are quite accomplished.
