Jay Leno
I was in Wilmington, NC in the late 80’s, visiting a friend who happened to be working in food service on a film called “Collision Course.” It was a police comedy starring Pat Morita (of “Karate Kid” and “Happy Days” fame) and a pre-”Tonight Show” Jay Leno.
My friend got me on the set and introduced me to Jay, who had already made a name for himself in comedy clubs and guest hosting for Johnny Carson. I didn’t expect much more than a “nice to meet you,” but he was very kind and gracious as we made small talk for about five minutes while he was waiting for filming to resume. He asked where I was from, and had a couple of tidbits of things that happened to him in my hometown, as he had performed there in comedy clubs many times over the years.
He was as kind and gracious as one could imagine. I only saw Pat Morita from a distance, but Jay could not have been kinder.
