Jeffrey Tambor
I was waiting for my flight in Atlanta to Tallahassee on Feb. 26th, when I quickly noticed a familiar face. My initial reaction was that it was a look-alike, given I was flying on a small plane and most celebrities seem to pick flights with First Class sections. (Admittedly there are only a few such flights daily into Tallahassee, so sometimes it just isn’t possible depending on your schedule.)
Once on the plane, I quickly did a Google search on my phone for “Jeffrey Tambor” and “Tallahassee” and sure enough, he was giving a talk the next day on the FSU campus about his career. I didn’t know, but he is apparently well-respected as a teacher of acting. FSU’s theater school is quite reknowned, which explained his visit.
If you remember that unique laugh he had (at least in Three’s Company/The Ropers) — it appears it’s his and not an act. Once he did that a couple times on the plane, along with talking with his deep voice, people started to recognize him and turn around to look.
I was seated two rows ahead of him and could hear most of the conversation with the passenger next to him. He had “no idea” what hotel he was staying in.
Very friendly guy by all accounts and shook a few hands as he walked through the airport.
