President Lyndon Johnson
When I was a kid, my parents arranged for the family to take a semi-private tour of the White House.
At one point, as we were walking from room to room, then President Lyndon Johnson walked past us in the hall. The adults on our tour said the respectful, “Hello Mr. President.” I, on the other hand, shouted out, “Hi Lyndon!”
The President turned and came over to me. He asked, “What’s your name, young man?” I said, “Peter.” He then asked, “And how old are you Peter?” I said however old I was at the time (probably 11- 12).
My mother then kicked me in the leg, knowing me well enough to know that the next thing out of my mouth would be, “And how old are you, Lyndon?”
My leg got the message and I didn’t say it, but I did get an autographed picture and some other White House trinkets.
