Robert Duvall
Working as an extra on a movie or TV show you learn lots of rules. One is not to ask for autographs or even speak to the stars.
On “Crazy Heart,” the mix included Colin Farrell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jeff Bridges and Robert Duvall. Now there’s a gentleman. On two occasions, Oscar winner Robert Duvall walked over to my taxi – I was playing a cab driver – leaned up against the fender with me, and started a conversation as if we were equals. Both times we talked like two guys on adjoining bar stools.
Never had an actor of his stature done that before or since. He was 77 years old at the time. The man is a regular guy.

Saw Mr. Duvall in a restaurant in NYC several years ago. I didn’t want to bother him while he ate but I pulled an “I Love Lucy”, the episode when Lucy sees William Holden, and made my niece switch chairs with me so I could face him the whole time. It was quite a treat and I’m sorry I didn’t get to speak with him because he seems like a really nice fellow and your story proves that!
