You’re not supposed to dislike him; you’re supposed to dislike his thoroughly untenable positions and what he stands for.

Why that rarely happens, at least in the US, is explained here by Gore Vidal: “Does anyone care what Americans think? They’re the worst-educated people in the First World. They don’t have any thoughts, they have emotional responses, which good advertisers know how to provoke.”

This is a great story!!! My uncle was there. He had been hitchhiking around and was hired to hang concert posters. He ended up with two extras and still has them!!! Wish I was born 20 years earlier!

If you really knew Mary Chapin Carpenter even a little bit, I would think you would know that her last name is Carpenter; Chapin is her middle name and the first name of her father. Perhaps early on she allowed herself to be called just Mary, but these days she insists on being called Mary Chapin.

That’s a story many people would refuse to acknowledge or just as readily dismiss. They want to cast Straw as a villain without admitting that the man has redeeming qualities and is not one dimensional. Everyone makes mistakes, especially millionaire athletes. Their good deeds often go unreported because its not “sexy” and doesn’t sell as good as negativity does. Straw always had a big heart and a generous nature. Maybe that was his downfall.
